I only adopted the asshole part, and a strong aversion towards anything where I'm not instantly brilliant. Took me years to unravel that, and there's still work to be done.
when i was younger i was consistently one of the smartest people in the room for a long, long time, and while that made me an insufferable asshole in many ways it also gave me a kind of self-trust i'm grateful for and that i often see people lacking

ha, yep, same. it's most obvious in the way i instantly stop playing video games when they get even slightly difficult

I had this, and it’s pathologies. I believe that helping any child feel this self trust is one of the key aspects of parenting (which almost no one does well)
