anyone thinking seriously about how to redesign dating? i think it's pretty clear that 1) modern dating is super broken and 2) finding people healthy long-term romantic relationships is one of the best things we could do for them so let's fix it already

the problem IMO is that people are framing dating as a direct activity, when you can achieve 10x, 100x results by framing it as a peripheral activity

i like where this is going but can you say more? peripheral to... testing for long-term compatibility?

Best results in dating come when you’re not actively trying to find a partner. Like happiness, best dates are elusive and come as a byproduct of doing something else.

yep. actively trying to find a partner is itself a somewhat self-defeating activity. it's like saying "looking for someone to play with". just start playing, and you'll find willing and eager partners on the periphery

hmm, yeah. to the extent that i've been using twitter as a "dating app" i guess it's been in this way - just trying to loudly think and have fun and seeing who else vibes
