Two points. 1. Social norms can improve wellbeing for everyone (ref. “the civilizing process” in Better Angels by Steven Pinker). 2. “Reality” can be changed by how we perceive and conceptualize our feelings. It is hard to conclude that children are operating “closer” to reality
