I suspect therapy methods work better the more you believe in and trust them. This means there's something harmful about studying how well therapy methods work and publicizing that information, which is that they can cause the methods to work less well.

Another documented example of this with lots of evidence is willpower depletion. 1. Willpower seems to be a limited resourced. 2. If you believe willpower is unlimited, you have more of that limited resource.

I think I've personally just dissolved willpower as a concept. There's a much finer thing it's possible to pay attention to and work with, which I don't currently have a better language for pointing at other than "energy flows."
