In the right direction but too active? I think when I experienced this it didn't feel like something I was doing, it felt like something that had been done to me.

Psychopathy?
-
i don't really know what psychopathy is but it seems to have something to do with low sensitivity to punishment. in my case i was extremely sensitive to punishment but it still didn't feel like other people were real

Solipsism?
-
Solipsism has more of a connotation of an intellectual position and I'm wanting to refer more specifically to an experiential thing. There's a particular way it feels for nobody to be real.

Seconding “solipsism” as a descriptor—also reminds me of NPC as an insult and how video games / VR are commonly used as a metaphor for understanding reality by disaffected individuals, which can be extremely destructive in this context.

Been struggling to clarify and describe this issue, first serious confrontation with it was the polemics on narcissism from The Last Psychiatrist (https://thelastpsychiatrist.com ). Perhaps you’re looking for the clinical term “mind-blindness”? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind-blindness …

What part of sociopathy doesn’t fit this definition?
-
the thing i want a word for is more like a symptom than a syndrome. it may be a symptom of sociopathy but it may also be a symptom of e.g. depression (or hmm maybe it's the other way around who knows)
