I really only started working out right after the 2016 election, I got a personal trainer because I was really afraid of getting depressed/immobilized and wanted something tangible to focus on

I focused on one thing which was getting stronger. My first trainer was a CrossFit guy so I learned a lot of kettlebell workouts and started lifting

Since then I’ve added running and did my first 5k this past month which was something I would never have imagined doing a few years ago

Now I’m doing what I call terminator 6 workouts with my trainer, it’s wild to experience tangible benefits like being able to carry more groceries home, and i actually have back muscles now?? Which feels like a cronenberg thing tbh

The exercise I find the most grounding/meditative is strength/lifting that involves balance - the combo of exerting strength and balancing really makes me surrender to my body’s natural intelligence over my analytical mind and it feels very healing

Anyway I have struggled to find ways to relate to / be in / with my body for my entire life likely due to various trauma & dysregulating situations that have been diagnosed variously as fibromyalgia, mystery virus or possible ms so

I increasingly suspect these weird mystery medical conditions are actually downstream of emotional dysregulation. I've had a mysterious chronic tightness in my chest for years that I thought was something like asthma, but turns out it was tons of suppressed feelings.

Yeah i can definitely say in my case, a series of seemingly unrelated physical problems have started to clear up as I’ve taken a body-mind somatic approach to resolving trauma

I always try to be careful to not universalize my subjective experience but focusing on getting my nervous system into better regulation has seemingly been the key. my dr recently told me I am physically healthier in almost every way since I made this my focus

Awesome! I've definitely had similar experiences, especially recently. Last week I relaxed my feet so hard they seem to have changed shape because they don't fit my shoes anymore. Best of luck on getting healthier
