Oh the Russian cic; yeah I’m pretty sure she reinvented a bunch of chakra stuff that got adopted by Western yoga/new-age groups. I don’t know the history of that v.well I’ve been indoctrinated by tantric buddhism so my understanding of it may be different I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️

Something most people don't realize is that Yoga as is practiced in the west is almost entirely a product of globalization and new age thought. The chakra system that is talked about in yoga class was basically invented by a Russian woman named Madame Blavatsky.

Thanks for the link. I agree that energy practices can really fuck you up, especially if you don’t have good 1:1 guidance. It’s not really my wheelhouse. I know a few people who do tsalung practices as their main jam, so I have a lot of respect for skilful ‘energy’ stuff.

On chakras? Don't really know, been intending to read up on the topic but don't have any direct experience (that I would recognize as related).

Thank you for all the links everyone. I just have a vague intuition that chakras are onto something coz of fun times feeling my body in the dark, mostly focussing on period pain/sensation, digestive pain/sensation and sexual sensations (it’s WILD to have 2x ‘penises’ yay)

Not EXACTLY relevant, but since I was just reading the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy article about scientific observation, I’m leaving this here without further comment https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/science-theory-observation/#SalTheSta …pic.twitter.com/RMVx8PRrOV

My first chakra experience was terrifying, uncontrolled, unexpected - for me & people around me. I didn’t know what it was at the time. It was directly connected to my first exploration of meditation. It was also positive and changed the course of my life in some ways.

fascinating, it's great to hear about other people's chakra experiences like this. i feel like i always have a ton of control over mine - like i can module the volume knob to wherever - but not even sure if we're talking about similar experiences really

I think of chakras being like the schelling points of psycho-physical topology, they’re often the first point of call, or landing places, then as familiarity increases the pathways between them become more accessible. Eventually the body & area around it is the territory.

But for some people the access is the other way around: the starting point is feeling the whole field of subtle sensory experience (light, electric, tingly, waves etc) and increasing familiarity leads to more intense, physical opening.
