thinking about why people love dogs more than themselves and each other. dogs exude a kind of innocence that people often don't. it's not exactly that they're harmless but that even if they harmed you, you'd know they wouldn't mean it. you feel like they're incapable of sin

here is the wildest thing i know about dogs: 1) there's a genetic disorder called williams syndrome and it sort of causes you to love everyone reflexively, and 2) there's evidence that dogs are descended from wolves with a genetic disorder analogous to williams

learning this filled me with a sense of responsibility towards dogs, and also reinforced a suspicion i already had about people, which is (phew, really going for the serious tweets today) that love is what flows when fear gets out of the way

people with williams syndrome cannot reflexively fear others. you can try to teach them and it's really hard. they will just get into strangers' cars. it is actually a huge problem. _and_ i take inspiration from how readily they love people because of this

it would probably be emotionally healthy for everyone to run an alt where they pretend to be a dog. if you can imagine a dog saying it it’s probably a pretty good thing to say

still can't stop thinking about how much i love dogs. imagine if a dog started preaching to humans. it would be the greatest religion ever dog preacher: my son... you are already... a Good Boy. *pats head*
