i have started secretly judging men for trying too hard to describe themselves

every answer i have to that question is awful 😐 somewhere in me i feel like men, specifically, should be known by their actions. not sure how much i endorse this

this feels related to a thing @Aella_Girl brought up awhile back about how in hippie spaces there's a lot of "goddess" talk when it comes to women but zero "god" talk when it comes to men. i think men understand that referring to themselves as gods would accomplish nothing good

also related to this backlash against "male feminists." people are starting to understand that there's something untrustworthy about a man who feels a need to explicitly self-describe as a feminist. none of the men i most trust to treat women well call themselves feminists

I've had several conversations with frustrated men who say things like, "How can I talk about feminism w/o women accusing me of being a fake male white-knight feminist who's out to score points?" See, this is a lemon problem. It's NOT ABOUT YOU. It's about the CONTEXT you are in pic.twitter.com/JpjCc5PoRt

🔥🔥🔥 as usual; it's still interesting to me that i find it more natural to apply this standard to men than to women

It’s about power dynamics IMO. Within a women-only group, it subdivides further (race, class, disability, etc), all the way downhttps://twitter.com/visakanv/status/1003197129836249088?s=21 …

Generally, it's socially acceptable to say "I hate X" when X has demonstrable power over you. "I hate my boss" generally goes over better than "I hate my employee", "I hate my dad" is generally more acceptable than "I hate my child" https://twitter.com/visakanv/status/1003196286609182721 …
