I've been meandering down the path of viewing people as machines running code for a couple decades. While it has certainly helped me feel like I understand the world, I think this way of thinking does weird stuff to the body, and I'm still unable to really do friendship well.
well, depends on what level of abstraction / consciousness you think of the code; at the level i prefer, "letting the code run" (as opposed to tinkering with it) looks like doing what your body wants / flow, not like e.g. executing a verbal algorithm you got out of a book

I don't view it as executing much of anything by the route of reading in algos and purposely hitting [run] on them. My model now is that we absorb code as memes, and they define us while our conscious mind haplessly tries to make sense of it and creates explanatory stories.
