Yes I think if you dig deep enough into highly ideological people they tend to draw their beliefs from some sort of intense pain in their past.
Trauma and ideology both have in common that they make you less flexible / creative / responsive by blocking your ability to notice and care about context. Wonder about shared mechanism. Plausibly the latter is at least sometimes being powered by the former.

Yeah, you can see this really clearly with, say, SJWs or incels. I wonder how much it also applies to, say, communists or neoreactionaries.
