Good point. I think societal level envy results in exclusion or mobbing. A lot of brilliant people I know are actually horrified of this and as a result share less of themselves = we all lose. I’m vaguely aware. Not much beyond knowing what (not how) they are by name. While there are strategies to try to resolve. If the other person does not want to, you can be stuck.
Sure, it's always a dance and people can always refuse to dance. I think there's a lot more possibility here than most people suspect though. In my experience it already helps quite a lot to calm down your own defensiveness and attempt to reassure theirs.
