I suspect one reason why bridge fans are so screamy and hyperbolic is that the plain facts aren't very persuasive.

One possible way to justify a $420 million transportation investment could be to create a master planned mixed use "downtown Magnolia" urban center with mid-rise office, retail and housing developments.

If this were Europe, it might be called the Grandiflora District and have a transportation hub and lots of cool architecture.

Lyon’s Confluence neighborhood is Europe’s largest redevelopment project, a former industrial district with some of the most interesting low-rise architecture I’ve seen.

Hopefully rerouting the buses to one of the other bridges is possible. Then again, that 24 route is an embarrassment. No wonder it has such low ridership...

Do you think they will follow through with spending the big money in Magnolia for a new bridge? The west Seattle bridge is going to draw all the attention now.

I’m not sure there is enough money for every bridge that needs to be replaced. Magnolia seems like the lower priority behind West Seattle and Ballard.
