sometimes I wish I could quit everything and focus on my personal game project and nothing else, just turn my back on all commitments and responsibilities and sequester myself in a cabin for a year and either create a masterwork or die
Honest question: what's preventing you from taking jobs/projects to save money and then take a year off to do that?

It's hard to have perspective on that as I'm not sure what your situation is etc. Hopefully you can find a way to living a version of that dream in the future but still have everything else work out ok too
