Fingers snapping and some signs as Christina Shimizu testified about the risk of displacement and legacy of discrimination, to support "north and south of C-ID" rather than heavy construction in the neighborhood.

Right now we’re seeing a lot of transit orgs fall back on their promise to be accountable to communities of color, to center them in the decision making - and we’re really disappointed. (via )

Starbucks stores across the country are striking to demand an end to Starbucks' illegal union-busting campaign. While the company keeps a metaphorical 'empty chair' for us in the boardroom, we're demanding a real seat at the table! #StarbucksStrike

This is why I think urbanism must be approached from a proletarian perspective with an understanding of the histories of colonialism and empire. You can't just expect something you draw on a map to come together well, you need to know the history and context to make it feasible.

The N/S option provides real and exciting opportunities for ETOD (equitable transit oriented development) that the CID desperately needs especially with the World Cup coming.

With the north and south option, our families and communities can savor a sense of belonging, knowing that preservation of our histories was intentional, and not merely an afterthought.

I appreciated reading this perspective from in on the impact of a proposed train station in Seattle's Chinatown/International District.
The issue is a stress test for what a truly inclusive urbanism should look like.

Back in 2016 Sage, as a member of Transit for All Coalition, advocated to communities of color to support the ST3 expansion regardless of the fact that it was another regressive tax, under the condition that we would prioritize affordable housing in development decisions, (1/2)

We refuse the notion that it is justifiable or acceptable for the CID to be collateral damage yet again for an infrastructure project that mostly benefits other communities — especially when there is a better alternative.

"At the end of the day, decisions to site massive infrastructure projects present tradeoffs. Usually, marginalized communities bear the brunt of these tradeoffs...The harm of a 4th Ave station is simply too risky."

It must be hard for ppl who are not connected to the CID community to understand what is at stake. When people call this a short sighted position and a “short term inconvenience,” I don't think they understand the layers of complexity and community that exist within the CID.

We don’t want to be like the many Chinatowns across the U.S. that have disappeared over the last 50 years because of racism, redevelopment, and infrastructure projects. Examples include San Jose, Detroit & Portland. Many more are fighting for survival – including Seattle. (8/9)

When Sound Transit unveiled a 4th Ave station location last winter, most of the CID community was shocked to hear it would require up to 10 years of construction – in the heart of our already stressed neighborhood. (5/9)

Supporters for a 4th Ave station would have you believe they represent a widely held view by the neighborhood. And that there aren’t workable alternatives. It could not be further from the truth. (3/9)
