Lawsuit incoming
-
Googled it and yes there’s a civil lawsuit in the works to ensure the officer - who quit btw - prevents his payout of benefits and pto
-
Well I say ensures but I meant, trying to stop any compensation, hopefully they win the lawsuit
-
Thank you. This answered my follow up questions after watching. Hope he gets blocked from all of that. Didn't deserve to wear the badge in the first place.
-
Update: the officer, John Smyly, will be on payroll for he next 8months ($69,000). He quit before any other actions against him can happen. PAYROLL FOR 8 MONTHS post resignation
-
Ig on the brighter side he won’t be a cop anymore, hopefully.
-
He’ll probably just move to a neighboring county or city and get hired again unfortunately

I was so scared for him the whole time but im glad he stood his ground
-
Even though he was completely in the right & within his rights, standing his ground could have got him killed. Unfortunately sometimes the best way to fight police is by following what they ask but express your disapproval. I rather fight in court where the law actually applies
-
No that’s exactly the opposite of what he should have done. The courts have proven they won’t do anything. Even if he was killed. The best way to fight oppressors is to stand up to them. Which is how the US Came about.
-
I that's a valid point but at the end of the day would you rather die a "martyr" for police brutality or attempt to fight in court civil right lawyers have won many cases
-
Maybe im not as brave or hot headed as some people who will deify police. I rather be himilulated in the short term and see my family again but then try to enact justice through civil law. I'm not saying being subservient is the way to stop police killings but it may get you home
-
Or perhaps you have been racially profiled enough. This isn’t just being humiliated in the short term, this unfortunately is a consistent thing for some people, there comes a point where enough is enough.
-
Believe me I have, i live in a upper middle class suburban area. I drive a red jeep wrangler and used to get pulled over all the time. Cops in east texas call me boy but I dont need to compare or challenge you on how I've been profiled man
-
He risked his life, which is scary, but he may have saved another's life by having this come to light. This "officer" is no longer a cop, so that town just got safer. No risk, no reward. This man is a hero
