DO NOT add this as the URL for a bookmark: javascript:location.hostname += '.sci-hub.tw' Which when you click on a paywalled research article, automatically takes you to the @Sci_Hub version of it. And DO NOT try this, see that it works wonderfully, and share it with others.

I know this is sarcasm, but thankfully @Sci_Hub exists to account for the overwhelming majority of scientists who still genuinely believe this. Virtually all papers could be OA, but researchers stop that from happening. Because reasons.

But is it really only the scientists fault? Journals have researchers write, submit and review papers for free, and then charge significant amounts extra for Open Access. It is certainly a good business model for them. The system is broken in several ways.

You are 100% correct here. But there is almost always a way to make your work OA for free through 'Green OA' or self-archiving. We made this little infographic to help researchers with this :) https://figshare.com/collections/How_to_make_your_work_100_Open_Access_for_free_and_legally_multi-lingual_/3943972 … HT @figshare

I'm just trying to protect the poor publishers from this piracy that is destryoing their industry. I hear the CEO of Elsevier couldn't even get the Mark IV jet plane he wanted, and had to settle for the Mark III. It doesn't even have Bluetooth...

Not that I care, but a user of @Sci_Hub is having trouble downloading articles from Journal of Neurophysiology (multiple tries, 3 different articles - they say). I feel bad for them, and wonder what the problem is.

I agree, terrible idea! An even worse idea is to install a Chrome plugin that turns DOIs into @Sci_Hub links: https://github.com/allanino/sci-hub-fy … This is so bad because all sorts of scary Russian viruses could make their way to your computer, you might even read interesting papers!
