The point-estimate fallacy seems under-discussed. Like most fallacies, point estimates are useful but dangerously oversimplified.

It's not an inborn bias, but a product of applying the simplest statistical analysis that can plausibly work: an average, usually.

It's automatic enough that I think it's worth thinking of it as a cognitive bias, even if it's a product of our education.
