    The weekly is out! 202 animals reported last week. Pheasants remain the top bird, but badgers became top mammal for the first time since October. This week also saw our first Egyptian goose since 2017. Seen roadkill? Let us know:

    In 2019 the most reported species were badger, pheasant, hedgehog, fox, and rabbit. Hedgehogs had their worst year since 2013 with over 1900 reports.

    114 species were reported to us in 2019, and 69 of these were birds. 2019 also saw first ever reports of: -Soprano pipistrelle -Linnet -Treecreeper -Scaup

    Did you see this piece on Channel 4 News last night? The collaborative dataset described includes Project Splatter data, submitted by you, and finds urban and suburban environments are high risk for hedgehogs.

    Today's reading is on the possibility that Toxoplasmosis gondii, which notoriously makes its hosts less risk-averse (mice lose fear of cats, etc.), may lead to increased roadkill rates. After all, what could be riskier than crossing a road?

    Deer in the strobe lights: sonic fence devices trialled on the A513 emit a strobe LED light and a high-pitch sonar signal toward woodland when an approaching vehicle is detected to prolong animal reaction time to oncoming traffic
