I am really mystified why Elizabeth Warren did this stunt. Being Native isn’t about blood, in Indian law at least; read your Felix Cohen

I just find it interesting that a meaningless DNA test and related high stakes schoolyard bet was bigger news yesterday than the fact that a Saudi journalist was killed, SA is planning to admit they killed him, and POTUS refuses sanctions/admitting they did it.

Have you seen her whole video? The DNA test is getting the headlines but it’s a detail. I think she did it because she had to. It was always going to be looming.

Why all the uproar & churning over this anyway? Would it be because she's a woman and persisted?

It's dumb. I guess it was when she ran against Scott Brown for the Senate, and his oppo researchers found she'd put Native American on some papers. Republicans have been trying to make an issue of it every since.

I think blood is relevant to receipt of certain federal benefits and to some tribal memberships. I welcome any honest attempt to debunk Trump lies and distortions, although the coverage of this w/r/t to Warren is absurdly “unwarranted.” (lol).

? 1. Pocahontas? Donald Trump daring her to? 2. John Kerry. If she’s even thinking of running for President (or VP), how can she do nothing? I think her 5-min info-ad sums up the reasons... But I’m more puzzled as to why people are thinking she should be quiet.

Are you kidding? Who decides what YOUR heritage is—and what aspects of it you cherish and highlight? As long as she’s factual, she should get to decide what parts of her story she wants to embody and emphasize. An outside organization—an tribe—doesn’t get to decide who she is.

It’s sad that she probably believed she had to do this, a la Obama’s long form birth certificate. And tens of millions will believe it’s fraudulent anyway.
