Holy moly... "the CO2 emissions from a single 60-minute fMRI scan at 3 Tesla may be as much as half a tonne". OPMs really are the future.

Doubt is fine. I doubt things many times a day and include in my consent conversations with patients. They often have unrealistic expectations walking in the door. Abuse and hatred is not fine. And nobody should expect they can blame me for a bad result from somebody else.

Incredibly important study, although results unsurprising. Rates of suicide in ppl with neurological disorders nearly double that of ppl without. Absolute risk difference still small though. Highest rates found in ALS and in Huntington disease.

Returning on train from trial monitoring visit to Newport for PATHFINDER trial with (Liz Cort). Amazing bounty of eggs (hen and goose) and honey produced by trial staff. Thank you, Aneurin Bevan Trust colleagues. Sometimes, it’s a lot of fun being a trialist.

What are our obligations to research participants when an Alzheimer's trial stops early? and I have a new paper out in with our suggestions.

Psychiatry Colleagues: Those fun loving antipsychiatrists are at it again. If you start getting nonsensical comments from a new account - I encourage you to block them immediately. Just consider it a robocall from a parallel universe.

It is a wonderful scheme and there is lots of scope to offer placements that combine clinical work with research. Please think about it, does not matter how junior/senior you are. It is very easy to set up a placement and so enjoyable..

Rats in the house this winter. Trying to live alongside them worked if stayed under the floorboards. But chewed through, with mess and destruction. Cage traps not worked and at the weekend I bought more lethal ones. So far, all I have caught is my thumb. I am no Jolyon Maugham.

    Surprise! Meta-analysis of psychotherapy for borderline personality (K=33; N=2,256) finds psychodynamic therapy (g = 0.41; 95% CI, 0.12-0.69) slightly superior to Dialectical behavior therapy (g = 0.34; 95% CI, 0.15-0.53).

No, young blood won't stop aging But analyses of young and old blood could give insights into biomarkers and targets for treating age-related diseases, e.g.

10 years ago today Wakefield's fraudulent paper was retracted. Not just wrong - fraudulent. It's hard to wrap our heads around the damage done by one person seeking to profit from his lies. So many have died from preventable illness. Trust experts, not frauds.

And, hopefully, ondansetron will turn out to have more convincing efficacy than pimavanserin in the treatment of hallucinations In Parkinson’s disease in the Top Hat trial. I’ll be playing my own small part in the study, running the Constipation Hot Line. Truly, living the dream!

John Hardy chair of the review panel quoted here is a sound opinion and obviously must feel strongly to speak out like this. Tldr: good leaders would take the rap for serial and long term misdoings in their teams.

"You just have to Google smartphone addiction and you’d be convinced that it is a thing, even though it is not a psychiatrically recognised disorder. To talk about smartphones affecting the brain is a really slippery slope"
