No matter how you look at the situation, he was a "problem". Again, overdetermined.So the Iraq War is probably not a good "litmus test" for determining if one has the "right" foreign policy views to serve in an administration. It was an overdetermined event that offers no clear means of identifying a cause or assigning blame (beyond Hussein himself). [END]

Addendum: to be clear, as the rest of the thread should make clear, the last tweet is about the decision to invade Iraq: that is over determined. The occupation phase was completely mishandled and in foreseeable ways. I say more on that

Isn't the issue with the Iraq war the occupation more than the invasion per se? I think it was fairly clear at the time that the admin wasn't capable of handling the occupation, so regardless of ideology the invasion was a foreseeable mistake, even if it was overdetermined.

This is a brazen misuse of "overdetermined." An overdetermined event has multiple sufficiently explanatory causal factors, whereas the Iraq War was clearly & exclusively caused by America's imperial-oligarchic foreign policy ambition (and the willingness of toadies to condone it)

Many Democrats voted for Iraq War in 2002 because the Democrats who voted against the Gulf War in 1991 looked stupid when it turned out to be a cake walk, seriously denting the presidential aspirations of senators who voted no.
