I sympathise with Ministers. They are in an impossible situation, and we should remember they are human too. What I find unforgivable is insinuating mild Govt critics are happy to see thousands die. Indeed and humans make mistakes - unfortunately the mistakes this govt has made and continues to make in its disproportionate response to the virus is destroying the lives of many other humans. So my sympathy for the ministers’ predicament ran out some time ago.

The government is in a situation of its own making. By 'following the science' the government has passed responsibility for decision making to the scientists who will, naturally, be ultra cautious with their advice in case that advice is wrong and they get the blame.
