Someone asks me for help in any and every store, no matter what I’m wearing (in the “liberal” northeast especially). I was once dressed to the nines, and a guy followed me for in the organic section of a grocery store. I belted him with an organic tomato and he got kicked out.

Although both spilled and spilt can function as the past tense for the verb spill, modern writers use spilled much more often

She didn’t use it as a past tense. She used it as a past participle (to be + pp = passive voice), which can be, but is not always, the same form as the past tense, e.g., ate/eaten; went/gone. That said, what was your point?
