Shameless plug: I'm delighted to announce that my book *The Battle of the Classics: How a Nineteenth-Century Debate Can Save the Humanities Today* has been accepted ! With a bit of luck, it'll appear in print by the end of 2020.

A nice encapsulation of Plato's problem of the One and the Many: "History involves a constant tension between sameness and difference; we have to translate antiquity into our terms at the same time as we emphasise the distance between us and them." --

I've long loved . So, it's not surprising that I've tried to get my son hooked on Eddie. Here's the first song my son ever heard, as we drove home from the hospital when he was only three-days old. It's title? "Baby," naturally!

My television career has commenced: has seen fit to air a documentary on Hannibal, in which I appear as a talking head. I don't think I can bear to watch. But maybe ancient history buffs would like to give it a gander:

I have never felt as badge-shamed for my non-elite affiliation before as at and I totally thought I was being paranoid until a friend with a very elite affiliation remarked that it was completely weird and mindblowing to see it happen over and over. Don’t change, academia.
