Today is the 9th anniversary of the original release of “Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher.” Happy birthday, old man! To celebrate, we’ve launched the Steam Page for the remake! AND we have an official release target: THIS WINTER!! 👀

When you work on a project on the side, everything takes longer than you'd like— but I'm still fairly confident we'll have the Socrates Jones Rerelease out this winter. :) We're getting close! UI clean up and controller bug fixes, and one last... experiment...

It's a pretty good game title. But newly christened game marketing expert Billy the Salesman says some big words like "REVELATIONS" or "REDEMPTION" would have really helped bring it home...

Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher jayisgames.com/archives/2013/ great game title, or best game title? Discuss.

It's good to "Question Relevance" when a discussion goes a little off the rails. Like, for example, getting obsessive over lore minutia in what is fundamentally an extended promotional gag.

Putting together some last bits of UI for release of Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher, including updating the Challenge menu. In the original, all the text options were actually images, making updating or tweaking them a pain. That was nonsense. We're not doing that this time.

Hmmm, maybe. I’ve already got the first bit sorted out: //Argument title: Maybe Don’t Enslave Humanity, Aliens gordan: “…” gordan: [serious] “…” gordan: “…” gordan: [crowbar] “!!!” gordan: “. . . . .”

"Elaborate for a flash game." I do wonder about praise like this. Now that we're going to be on Steam instead, what will the relative expectations be? Will we still be good? Will people be like... "it has 13% less Gordan Freeman than I expect from a Steam Game."

I'm playing Socrates Jones, a Flash game from 2013 based on the mechanics and aesthetic of Ace Attorney, but about philosophy instead of justice. It's kind of bizarrely elaborate for a Flash game newgrounds.com/portal/view/62

While we're plotting the remake, I need to shout out this Commadore 64 demake concept by . They sent it to us just a few days after the game originally came out in 2013. It was the first fanart I ever received!

Okay, Billy the Salesman's doing decently so far. Hasn't even plugged his deer repellent once! Don't tell him the game is digital, though. He seems so proud of that box he's flaunting about; I wouldn't want to disappoint him.

Operation: Scour Twitter for Socrates Jones Mentions is going well. Nice reminders of the impact we made the first time. ♥️ Also reminders that we need to fix our old as butts website…

I've learned more philosophy from playing Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher than any of my classes: socratesjones.com

This remake is a labor of love, made in our freetime, for FREE. It took JUST long enough to have NO IDEA if people will remember the original game or care, so if you do, please wishlish us so Steam’s algorithms can quantify your love ;)

The temptation to tag Pro Philosopher as a "2D Fighter" on Steam is stronger than it should be But I feel like that's the sort of joke that's only funny to me, and annoying to a lot of fighting game fans. I don't want them fighting me IRL
