if it was on the bottom then you couldn't have a handy kickstand
Buttons feel very similar to 3DS. Nintendo's handheld experience is prevalent. And I'm pretty sure headphone jack is stupidly on the top.

as someone that plays handhelds lying down with the system resting on me, the bottom headphone jack is the bane of my existence.

it's probably on the top because of tabletop mode, couldn't go on sides bc of joy-cons, couldnt go on the bottom in tabletop mode
