The VATS system would have to go, but that'd be a small price to pay for 2-5 people to survive the wasteland together (or solo, i hope)
Multiplayer survival Fallout could be tight though? I would like to see anything more about it or even playing it before immediately passing judgment about it being shit for trying anything new.

I think the problem is that each new game seems to drift further from what players want.

Players are not a united demographic though. Even within a single genre, what we want or value can be very different between individuals or even smaller groups. Trends in gaming are a thing, and I suspect that's kind of what I think you mean, but even then we're a fickle bunch.

Totally. The push back against this is that it is going further and further away from the franchise's roots. Personally, I'm dissapointed that all the people who have inklings about it are calling it a clone of another franchise.

Okay yeah, I could see that going poorly, especially if there were little synergy between the franchises being discussed. Such situations can be unexpected successes, but what you're describing reminds me of how Capcom handled Resident Evil 6. Doesn't Fallout have multiple roots?

I just think the trailer should've been less vague about what the game actually is. The trailer makes it seem like its another Fallout SP RPG when it seems pretty clear by all the reports thats not what it is.
