Are you ever creeped out by an ad that seems to know you? Did you know that surveillance camera can actually recognize you? Are you tempted to take one of those DNA tests? This year, @nytopinion is looking at tech's impact on privacy — and what to do about it.

Your phone was listening to me talk about this yesterday and had this tweet directed to you. The irony is unbelievable.

Hey 👋 I’m an undergraduate CS major at Stanford studying computer science and I’m super interested in the intersection of CS/Privacy/Policy. I’m likely writing a thesis on this topic. @nytopinion do you need any summer interns?? Plz.

I'm in my last semester of law school, but prior studied risk analysis with a focus on cyber security at Penn State. We did little CS stuff, but I'm now using self training mods online. I'd be curious about this paper because I believe the legal landscape is going to change soon.

These developments are alarming especially given how much time our children and young people spend online. Educational institutions will need to deal with this as part of the curriculum. We need more research on the effects this has on our children and young people

Teaching critical analysis as well as the strategies of marketing and PR and how these are used to manipulate us would be a good start. Then a little #ethics wouldn't go astray. All are desperately needed #nzpol #Internet #tech #education #edtech
