No cap limit at 5k. the sr would just go up. so every season players would hit new milestones 5k-6k-7k
oh to answer the do? question it would prevent the saturation we see now around 4k. slowly more and more players keept reaching GM (top1% through placing higher then not playing much. it would just allow higher rank players to have better matches also prevents boosting into "gm"
