Anyway, I am doing my best to use encouragement and actively participate in teaching my kids as much as they can stand to hear me prattle on about. I need to start showing my kids how to hack their game files.

Put those together and failing to figure it out makes you think the people calling you stupid are smarter than the ones telling you you're smart. I started this as a "wow nostalgia!" tweet about hex editing game files, this got depressing rather quickly.

I wish I had more drive and resources available (as well as brain cells) at a young age. I wasted so many years being either afraid or angry or depressed because I was told I wasn't smart enough or told to bugger off because I'm so smart I should be able to figure it out.

I always wanted to buy the game but being a kid I had no money. By the time I had a job I couldn't find it, now it doesn't run on anything and I'm into more complex games now. :(

I started saving my game in MAXX on the demo version and then doing a hex search for the turn timer count in the save file. When I finally identified it's address I just kept saving my game right before I ran out of turns and resetting it to 0.

Way back when (like teenager) I learned a little bit about hex editing and hexadecimal, although I still had some issues with seeing it as this scary thing I wasn't ever smart enough to tackle. I found a DOS hex editor on a shareware disk and a program for Dec to Hex.
