It doesn’t mean we didn’t work hard for our achievements but this idea of “if they tried harder” and “if their parents were more involved” really just attempts to put you on a pedestal for “overcoming obstacles.” I’m proud of us but that ain’t it. And deep down, you know it.

Not sure of the “yikes” but frankly, the main thing I notice is elitism being at an all time high from people who should understand how systems and structures impact us in a myriad of ways. The same people who disinvite far too many people because of a lack of formal education.

Yup. I was fortunate to be born when I was born, where I was born to whom I was born! I recognize there are other people as smart as, as diligent and hardworking as me (or more so on all accounts) who have not had the opportunities I was blessed to have.
