It’s disappointing and a cause for concern that after all the incentives from the government, the price of rice is still high. @BarrowPresident tells the business community. #GambiaBusiness #DevelopGambia #NDP2021

To alleviate our dependency on imported rice, we've to improve the agricultural sector with modern farming techniques. We've everything it takes to produce n consume d amount of rice needed. I think that's d incentives we should be working on salvage this crisis.

Investment can only work in a healthy environment where corruption really is tackled. The fishmeal factories are bribing all our elders of coastal villages. How are we to continue while we inform the government about massive corruption case and nothing is done about it?

Artificially pegging a price of any commodity at a price determined by gov’t bureaucrats doesn’t work! What we need is to help businesses reduce the cost of production by reducing taxes in the short term & ramp up domestic production in the long run!

Price control is and will never work in a market economy, the forces of demand and supply will drive prices, government trying to win public support on commodity prices will only drive the economy down. What you need to do is institute economic policies that entice investment

True... the more players we got in the market, the more competition and hence price reduction... ...= may be a bit of 30% off on duties for now 6 months and entice new entrance to the market and gradually inc..5% yearly...

We cannot have the cake and eat it , looking for government popularity while implementing very weak economic policies are definitely none compatible, is not only the tax rate but also the transparency, accountability and strong and independent judicial system

Your government needs to take drastic steps against these unscrupulous business people, some of them to say the least.

Investment is the long term solution invest in the agricultural sector then you don't have to import 100% . So simple demand and supply if you grow 60% of rice consume in the Gambia price will go down, unemployment will go down and you will have a market to sell your products.

We need to grow more rice in The Gambia. Chinese came to Batti long ago taught how to irrigate & grow it. When the rice milling machine broke that was the end of the growing. Nobody knew how to fix it, get parts, or had money to do that.

The key is all in education. Aquaponics farming might be an amazing solution for the Gambia but its never tried before. Also our soil is degrading, not only by many dumpings of waste water from fishmeal factories.

Dumping problem calls for better recycling than letting scavengers make an unhealthy & dangerous living this way. Polluting SOS childrens villages. Soil degrading - trees cut down for cooking & building = soil erosion. Solar energy tree planting needed. We're doing it in Batti.pic.twitter.com/Hp93yO0gzj
