If memory serves me correct, as a youngster who grew up in Alra Park, Nigel am sure there was a company called Union Carriage based in Dunnottar. Just wondering why the wheel has once again been reinvented at great expense. What about the funds spent on the Chinese trains?

Yes you right. Now CR make as if the new train manufacturing plant is such a great thing, when they stopped using the one we had and rather go out on tender to order too tall trains so that the cadres can loot.
-
What's astounding is the ANC keeps on reinventing the wheel. It's the same thing they did with Investment South Africa, all systems were put in place during the Mandela era yet they go & start the process all over again. Now that's what I call wasteful expenditure.
-
Yeah. All they had to do is maintain, bring in improvements and upgrade with the change of technology. But no. They must 1st break down, stop using, and let it deteriorate and then a do-over as if they've invented something new.
-
Precisely. A subtle way of brainwashing voters who are non the wiser or have forgotten the wheel had already been invented.

Union Carriage was bought by a France firm known as Alstom, they actually bought 51% of the shares but I read on their website that they will be joining forces with this new factory to help Prasa improve the current metro trains. They now call it Alstom Ubunye
