This is a great example of Raeed's persistence, and his impressive effort to pull together a compelling story from some sometimes contrary data. He and Josh skeptically considered the outcomes of a bunch of analyses and made sense of it all. Nice work!

It's great to see the twitter buzz about the newly announced program ()! I thought I'd kick things off with my morning tweet, but you have to get up pretty early to beat this crowd! See you all there.

Yet one more nice example of several former members of my lab pulling together existing data (this time from three distinct projects and brain areas!) to make a really nice contribution. Congrats to them and to the reviewers who helped to hone the arguments.

In order to make intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) useful as a means to restore somatosensation in a BCI, it needs to be fast; single-electrode ICMS is not. By using many electrodes simultaneously (mICMS) we made it as fast or faster than nature did ().

I certainly couldn't have said it better myself. Having known and admired Krishna for well over a decade, and now collaborating with Chethan on two official projects, this looks like as good an opportunity as one could ask for...

A few years ago, I was extremely fortunate to be this postdoc. It was transformative: Rewarding and fascinating science. Received (and still receive) unparalleled mentorship. Gained a network of great friends, collaborators, and truly wonderful people.

Has anyone ever heard of, or done seated neurosurgical procedures in monkeys (as in humans) to reduce intracranial pressure and pulsations?

The Dept of Physiology at Northwestern University has begun a faculty search. Rank and research focus are open, but applications from the systems and computational neuroscience community are strongly welcomed (sorry, no monkeys at this time). Apply here:

My family spent summer ’69 at Barr Camp, 10,200 ft up Pike’s Peak. My father bought this TV with a big battery pack so we could watch the moon landing (at that point it still had a picture tube). A few years later, Dad used the battery to make our model rocket launching system.

I just learned of the SFN "Science Knows No Borders" initiative, which provides opportunities for scientists denied a US visa to present their research at Neuroscience 2019 remotely through poster, or oral (recorded) presentations. . Very impressive!

Clearly someone has too much time on his hands now that he's defended his dissertation. Well done, Raeed; watch out and the rest of the gang at Pitt...
