If there is a quid pro quo "resign in exchange for pardon" then Pence is on the hook for obstruction of justice and the pardon may be void. Would Trump trust Pence? Who pardons Pence? Nope. Trump will pardon himself. It just provides one more ring of barbed wire in his defenses.
