    Extreme wind and hail account for most of the damage on the Prairies and can affect larger areas than a tornado. This warning will help others in the path know this isn’t just your average severe thunderstorm.

    This new warning is VERY important. Some storms are low end severe and others can be life threatening even without tornadoes.

    The new “Extreme Thunderstorm Warning” will act much the same way as a tornado warning. - broadcast alerts issues - emergency alerts/SMS A standard Severe Thunderstorm Warning does not interrupt broadcasts.

    Starting June 1st ECCC will be able to trigger a new higher end severe thunderstorm warning. Criteria: -Observed hail size* ≥ 7cm (baseball) and/or -Wind speed ≥ 130 km/h More 👇
