We’re going to spend a lot more time reporting on photojournalism. What should we cover? https://www.poynter.org/news/were-going-spend-lot-more-time-reporting-photojournalism-what-should-we-cover …pic.twitter.com/sqOByMp0Is

Definitely offer guidance to reporters on how to work effectively with photojournalists to tell their stories. Fostering cooperation in the news-gathering process is so important, but our role is often misunderstood by reporters.

Ethics! Both in how the photograph is made and how you present it in publications. Also photo editing ethics. Choosing photos for stories made by professionals has so many decisions made by instincts and skill and good ethics and practices need to be documented.

How about the importance of H.R. 3945, which would create a small claims process for settling copyright disputes, opening a massive avenue for individual creators to pursue infringements against their work they were previously unable to because of the costs of federal litigation?

please do a survey of how many newspapers do not have any photo staff anymore. my guess is 75% of all weeklies, dailies, monthlies (and internet only pubs) don't have a single photog or photo editor.

The process of covering conflict and how modern photojournalists who are not on assignment from major organizations cover such topics with little support. And, why they do it. (Syria, Myanmar, Yemen, DRC and places were migration or resources create conflict.)

Vast majority of digital-only news orgs don't seem to employ staff photojournos. (At best, they'll have a photo editor.) Do managing editors at these orgs ever see this changing? I'd love to see a convo with ME's abt where they see photojournalism fitting into their news output.

I’d like to hear more about balancing photographing the moment/getting but not missing the larger context of an event or story by putting the camera down.
