You may want to fax this to newsrooms because they aren't getting the message. Just another round of breathless coverage that scores mass shootings like sports.

Let's just pause a moment to think about WHY there are "best practices" for covering mass shootings.

Disgusting that we have a mass shooting style guide. But here's another tip: Don't cover it like a natural disaster. It's 100% preventable.
-
By not covering up, you're basically giving the next potential shooter inspiration
-
By bad reporting and incorrect words false accusations u are giving the

Or we have the media stop making this a spectacle. Fueling the next killer.. we all have to be vigilant now

But by all means call it terrorism, because what better exemplifies terrorism than indiscriminately firing rapid fire rounds into a crowd?

Agreed, but the shooter should never be named. Not by msm or s/m. They want to be remembered and infamous. They should be denied that wish.
-
Incorrect. Naming the person adds correct awareness to the perspective of present. As opposed to fictional or worse.

And quit using "Lone Wolf" as a description - Call them what they are: stray dogs.
-
NO~ problem is that in its self! (I/we get your sentiments but u forget the victims whom are alive!)

I don’t believe a 60 year old shoots into a crowd to be recognized or famous. Mentally ill person who needed help long before this happened
-
Mentally ill people are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. This facile, false excuse contributes to stigma.

I think it's pretty clear anyone who shoots people up is mentally ill but ok
-
For day-to-day conversation, I'd agree. But when reporting for public, it's a term that carries specific weight and has specific diagnoses.
-
I was talking in general. Anyone who murders people is not mentally healthy.
-
And maybe we don't need to diagnose people online but maybe we should talk abt mental illness in general more than we do
