The Afghan people have long faced a range of serious humanitarian needs, which require our urgent attention now more than ever. @USAID is committed to continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people in Afghanistan as long as we & our partners can do so safely.
.@USAID has activated a Disaster Assistance Response Team to lead US humanitarian efforts. Our DART is working with partners in the region to provide assistance to communities across #Afghanistan, including food, health care, medical and hygiene supplies, and other relief.
Half of Afghanistan’s population now requires humanitarian assistance. Food shortages are rampant, with half of all children under five facing malnutrition. Drought, conflict & other challenges drive displacement. Health services, including to address COVID-19, are sorely needed.
The Taliban must allow humanitarian organizations to continue their vital work, which includes: 1) Aid workers must have safe, unhindered access. 2) Female aid workers must be permitted to operate. 3) Assistance must reach Afghans regardless of gender or ethnicity.
