DoH improves security but I would argue misunderstands what privacy means. As a result instead of the DNS data of all Firefox users being scattered across ISPs it's now consolidated w/ Mozilla & Cloudflare. Our collective privacy weakens w/ centralization.

12 hours left to submit a presentation for in Amsterdam! If you want to do a thing, you probably should do the thing today.

Interesting how quickly some things change. The implementation turned out to have a major HTTP1-only bug. But nobody noticed since queries only come in over HTTP2.

I was just reading a page from 2002 with a link to a book on Amazon. The link still worked. The book was still there. Also, I ordered it, from a 16 year old link!

I asked you whether you’re planning to actively deploy/use DoH: 17% yes, 56% no.

Announcing: The PowerDNS DNS over HTTPs initiative. An experimental service and a big question: what do you need from us before you will enable DNS over TLS and DNS over HTTPS for your users?

Should you be wondering why we are simultaneously working hard on DoH *and* arguing against further centralizing DNS on :

Are you planning to actively deploy/use DoH in your neck of the woods within the forseable future, say one year?

There are now also dedicated metrics in dnsdist like HTTP protocol version, GET/POST, number of HTTP connections, successful responses:

(and even without SNI, the DOH response included the IPv4 or IPv6 address of the immediately following connection - lots of crib material)

Because a request is immediately followed by either a plaintext HTTP connection, or a plaintext SNI-labelled HTTPs connection, DoH is the mother of all known-plaintext generators. Make sure you get your crypto right!

Ways in which I love C++: memory use of service. <10MB - does full featured HTTP2 & TLS too.
