I am now imagining the police deploying colorful kites, paper airplanes, and trained birds to distract everyone.
Portland Police have used aerial distraction devices in today's protest. Portland Police have not used tear gas as some are reporting.

What is an arial distraction device?

I believe one was shot at a protester in Portland on Aug 4 and it got lodged in their bicycle helmet and exploded. They got some shrapnel in their skull.
