It was set up as a place for alt-right folks to meet without being challenged for racism, anti-semitism, etc. The frog mascot is meant to bring Pepe to mind. The founders do not describe it as such, but it was exactly that from day 1, kind of their "safe space".

Pepe, a cartoon frog, is an old nonsense internet meme that was repurposed a year or two ago as a in-group sign for neo-Nazis and other flavors of internet racists, after a series of racist variants on the old cartoon surfaced.
