You can say the same thing to Catholic women. We have been silenced for too long in the Church. Mary Magdalene was the first to witness the Resurrection, but the Apostles did not believe her. Does Rome hear the witness of faithful Catholic women?

That is BS talk. Should read more history and theology.
-
I do not feel silenced at all. I am very active in my parish and women’s groups.

-
Not every experience will be the same, and I’m speaking from my own but thankfully the Catholic Church was *the* only place I ever felt believed and respected as a woman. I’m so sorry if your experience was not the same

Thanks for the love, Alyssa. I converted to Catholicism in the 70s, taught in parochial schools, was a postulant in a cloistered monastery & volunteered in l'Arche. My home is & always will be the Catholic Church & my lived faith carries me through pain & disability. It's home.

Had I come across a message like this years ago, my ego would've been gratified but (*therefore* actually...) I'd still be a lost soul. So grateful for JP2 and B16 who didn't pander but spoke the truth in charity.
-
To my understanding, Pope is referring to the sexual assault victims of the Church who have been silenced for centuries. If you feel he panders in general that is fine, but I feel that this message is very important.
-
U r right! Abuse victims must be listened to, but most cases we hear about today date back to mid20th century. As Francis explains, John Paul II began dealing with the problem as soon as elected in '78. Now less abuse in Church then in other contexts.
-
That’s not exactly accurate, but while it’s too late to do anything about the assault that happened in the past, we can do the RIGHT thing and address the assault now. The “better than it was then” argument doesn’t fly with assault. Even one case of it is way too many.

I agree, but sadly, perfection is not of this world. But we can look forward to the Kingdom of God. On my way to Mass: will pray for you and your intentions. Please
for me too!
-
Thank you for your prayers. Of course perfection is not realistic. However — we must be careful that we do not give up in exhausting every option we have to do the very best we can, simply because perfection is unattainable.

And young people have to listen to their elders ... those of us who have the wisdom and life experience to help them not make the same mistakes we have.
-
Don't assume that age always brings wisdom. Sometimes not listening is the best course of action.
-
Thank you Leo. I'm 65 but I guess I got a little snippy with this lady.
-
God, gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason. We can not allow this man to run the church as he bows down to the bankers. He fears earthly consequences, thus he must be removed.
-
The church welcomes you back any time.
-
Thank you Leo I follow Pope Francis bcuz I really appreciate what he says. He is a fantastic Pope. I'm trying to move down to the Twin Cities so that I will go to church at the Basilica. The priest we did have here he was a beautiful soul he brought many to the church then they>
-
Moved him and the new priest well it was his sermons that drove me away. I just have this gut feeling about him that he is judgemental. His sermons proved it.
-
sometimes you have to tune out the person so that you can better appreciate the divine mysteries.
