Dear Pope Francis, Given the current circumstances, “affection” is an inappropriate choice of words & shows a stunning lack of awareness. People are waiting for you to take action. We love our faith, but the Church needs to get its act together.

Remember 98℅ Priests are faithful...the small ℅ of abuse is in secular schools,children homes,boarding schools etc child protection needs to be in place everywhere...scandal can be anywhere. So support & pray for Priests is vital.

So sorry to give the impression I don’t support or trust priests. Quite the contrary. Just surprised at the timing of his word choice given how conflicted faithful Catholics feel about the hierarchy’s handling of a painful issue. Praying for all.

Completely disagree. To deny 'affection', due to the effects of evil, to those who support and serve us all, is to concede to that very same evil. If we deny love to those that love us, going so far as to redefine the words we use to express it, we are lost. We need community

I am not saying we should deny affection to priests. I feel with what is happening now in the Church a Tweet asking for prayers and compassion for the victims may have been better.

Are these things mutually exclusive? Today is the feast day of St. John Vianney, patron of parish priests, to give some context here.

Amen Even though I am hurt and the pain lingers on each day, I will not give up, for the battle is already won. This sadness sickens my soul. These tears that hit my pillow at night longs to see happiness once more and I pray that You will open up a way for me.

We pray for all priests. Particularly for the vast number of priests who have given their lives to serve God and his people faithfully and spiritually and many of whom sadly suffer due to the misdemeanour of some of their colleagues.

God grant there will be a plentiful supply of Priests. Guard and protect them. May the Spirit encourage them and lead them into professing the truth.
