Its only an apology if you show remorse and work to correct your mistake. "Look at all these things we want you to buy" is not an apology. Its pandering for dollars.

Technically, an apology is just an explanation, not an expression of any remorse (although it can do so). Saying that you're sorry isn't really an apology for this reason.
