The black and white heat image shows large fragments falling a long distance away. I suspect it was a bigger bang than they expected?

I want to know that too. Apparently the crater is the size of a double decker bus but theres no pictures of it.

It is hard to think of how much destruction was caused to towns and cities in the South West during WWII - this brings it home somewhat!

This bomb, like others at Exeter, Bath etc in the West Country were probably dropped as series of bombing missions known as Baedeker raids. Reprisal raids for the Allies bombing old German cities, such as Lubeck.

Wow It’s scary to think of living through that. Mummy was only saying recently, as school children they were fired on by airplanes They threw themselves into ditches and when safe the boys looked for the bullets. Hard to imagine that generation doesn’t live with nightmares.
