I've been on twitch 7 years. For 4 of those I had another job (outside of streaming) because I needed to pay the bills. It was 3-4 years ago that you really started to see a lot of people actually make it a decent living (and around when I became a full-time broadcaster).

So while I'd love to agree with you, I just don't. Speaking of OG streamers specifically, the majority of us didn't make money, and a sub button didn't exist, but that didn't stop us from sharing content with others and building a community of like-minded nerds.

Naw. We streamed cause it was fun and we built communities and made friends cause we had a common interest. Just not the same. More ppl are motivated by money and fame, then the former.

I mean, yes, but you could also argue that when you’re in a position of elevation, you can bring people up with you. “You don’t climb the ladder then pull it up after you so others can’t climb it.” I totally understand your position, but have also been on the other side of it.

I am more than willing to "shout out" friends, regardless of how big they are. The ladder analogy doesn't work here. That ladder is there, regardless of other big streamers. Most of us had to climb it on our own. You didn't see us bitching the whole way up.

For real. Back then, Twitch wasn't even a means to make money. Sub buttons for all partners didn't come out until 2013. We just did it for fun. Kids these days...
