The color composition of his painting truly depicts scenic places in Bali to Singapore. He has gained recognition and awards from the American Watercolor Society. For which he received the prestigious Dolphin Fellowship (2000).

Did you know that despite being one of the most celebrated female artists, becoming an artist was not her first aspiration. In fact, she had an interest in the sciences and biology. #FridaKahlo originally wanted to become a doctor before discovering her passion for art.

Cheong became well known in the art scene for the distinct characteristics of his artworks. Many of his works focus on Southeast Asian indingenous tribal people that are often painted with almond shaped facial features and exaggerated long limbs.

He worked with mainly watercolour due to a shortage of oil paint during that time. In 1942, he held his first exhibition and four years after, permanently moved to Singapore where he taught as an arts professor in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts for the next 20 years.

Cheong Soo Pieng (1917-1983) was one of Singapore’s most celeberated aritsts. He was born and has studied art in Xinhua Academy of Fine Art, China. His art studies had been cut short due to the Sino-Japanense war in 1938, in which his school was collateral damage.
