I always just saw him as a troubled kid who didn't understand a world he couldn't get answers from. In otherwards, a typical teenage youth.

yeah nope. Hes incapable of comprehending the actions of people around him and terrified of growing up. Theres a reason hes getting psychological help by the end of the book.

When we reread the book we just see an intelligent & highly sensitive kid who "failed" academically. It's a relevant theme in today's society. We seem to be fixated on that traditional school path / degree is the only way to be successful. Leads our youth to be lost & frustrated
